These instruments are professionally recorded sound samples designed to offer the highest quality playback. Mac OS Catalina Finale 25.Included with Finale is an integrated collection of instrument sounds from Garritan Personal Orchestra (also known as GPO) and other Garritan libraries. Unfortunately, it has been my experience that it is often the case of MakeMusic taking 3 steps forward and 2 steps back. However, I have used Finale for almost 20 years and each time an upgrade comes out I hope to find the issues I have surrounding playback addressed. I can only hope that when Finale 27 comes out these obvious inadequacies have been addressed.Īpologies for the rant. And let's not get started with issues to do with changes in tempo, accelerations, ritardandi, etc, which while not directly related to Aria, tie in with my overall dissatisfaction with Finale's playback features or lack thereof.Įven if there are answers to all the problems I have pointed out, the question I then ask is:Īfter spending a lot of time creating your music and then notating it with Finale, do you then want to spend a lot of additional precious time fiddling around with Finale/Aria settings and trying to figure out how they work to create a sound file so that others can hear your music? Sometimes, I honestly think it would be easier and faster to export a midi file of the finished composition into my DAW and create a sound file from there. What the Reverb and Room Size options do is anyone's guess. (If there is a way of doing this, please let me know.) This situation is not helped by the Mixer in Finale which does a poor job of changing dynamics/or offers very limited (or even incorrect) ranges for some instruments. For instance, it seems that it is not possible to alter any of the Aria settings for an instrument while Finale is playing back music.

Although the sounds are reasonable the functionality of the player is poor.

The cost of the Garritan sound libraries is not exactly cheap (when you consider how much is out there). The only possibility is that MakeMusic would rather earn a few more dollars than have satisfied customers. Why MakeMusic decided to ditch the Kontakt player for the vastly inferior Aria player that promise more and delivers far less I do not understand. To describe it and its integration into Finale merely as clunky hides the fact that this combination of softwares actually impedes workflow and often makes the Finale's playback feature a waste of time. Why now?īecause I have found the Aria player to be completely underwhelming and frustrating to use.

This is the first time I have entered a post on this forum.
